Coleman Memorial Park is a city-owned park with oversight from a governing Board of Trustees, and community support from a Friends’ Board. The Friends had their own website and branding, but it wasn’t aging well, and the separatism made fundraising efforts confusing for local residents. Both of the boards had personnel changes and felt it would be beneficial to combine their resources for a more cohesive front. It was time for change, and they were ready to tackle it together.
I was thrilled when they approached us to help them start over. It’s the same satisfaction you get from a good Spring Cleaning. The difference is observable. It shows care and pride.
As usual, we began with updated branding and a style guide. It’s a great way to build confidence and set the tone for a new online presence. We started the website redesign with existing content and built from there. Updated pictures were provided and upcoming events began to populate the site with new life.
And here we are. One year later.
We’ve added membership registration, online pavilion rentals, and volunteer forms that automatically feed into Google Sheets. We also revamped their Facebook page, and created a MailChimp to communicate with supporters.
As the individual boards become more active, their new online presence is ready to grow with them. I could share screenshots with you here. But I find the best part of the work I do resonates in a more valuable way offline. If I’ve done my job well, it frees everyone else up to do the work they do best.

Public events at the Coleman Memorial Park Veterans Memorial Amphitheater are a big part of the Friends’ efforts.

Becky has since joined the Friends’ Board and enjoys catching up with friends at Summer Concerts in the Park.
